Explore the 2nd Oldest Town in the Shenandoah Valley
Mark your calendars! Please join us on Saturday, the 23rd of November at 2:00 pm just south of the Capon Valley Bank, near the corner of Rt. 11 and Stephens Run Street in Stephens City. At that time and place we will be unveiling and dedicating our new Stephens Family state historical marker. The Commonwealth of Virginia sponsors this highway marker program. In our summer newsletter we announced that on the 20th of June Jennifer R. Loux, Highway Marker Program Manager of the Virginia Department of Historic Resources, notified us that our application for this sign had been approved. This historical marker sign will commemorate our first European settlers, Peter and Maria Stephens, as well as their eldest son Lewis Stephens Sr., the founder of the town. This event will be part of our 2019 Annual Members and Volunteers Holiday Open House. After the unveiling and dedication of the sign, participants are invited to join us at the museum for refreshments.
