SUMMARY:Academy Hill Readers
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an engaging discussion of Prisoners of Congress: Philadelphia’s Quakers in Exile by Norman E. Donoghue II. \nThe American Revolution was a fight for freedom. However\, the patriots struggled with how they should handle neutral pacifists. Led by the Quakers\, these religious communities made up a large percentage of the Pennsylvania population. While some had supported the patriot cause before it erupted into war\, others seemed to have closeted British sympathies. This latter group included some of the most prominent Quakers in Philadelphia\, who were sent to prison in Winchester without a trial or conviction first. \nOur meeting room will be Rachel’s Kitchen\, which is down the stairs on the right when you enter the main doors of the Shenandoah Lodge & Athletic Club.
